The Vision of the Tabernacle

Cooperating Mutually

All of God’s children should serve Him, whether couples, families or single people. However, this needs to be done in a balanced way. Serving God is not an excuse to not fulfill our human, secular obligations. For example, a single brother who has the burden to take care of someone should not not go to work because of this, claiming that he is serving God. We must be normal people, acting in a normal way as we serve our Beloved. This can also be applied to the married couples. The husband and wife should cooperate with one another so that both of them can serve God. However, each one must fulfill their domestic and family obligations. The result of this will be harmony in the home and a service that is pleasing to God.

The Couples Need to Have the Same Vision

In the Bible there is a record of two couples that illustrate the need for both spouses to have the same vision and the same goal regarding service to God, one negatively and one positively. On the positive side we have Aquila and Priscilla, who were faithful co-workers of the apostle Paul in preaching God’s New Testament economy. On the negative side there were Ananias and Sapphira, who were united in deceiving the Holy Spirit (Acts 5:1-11).

Why did Ananias and Sapphira fail? Because they did not care for God or for what He was doing at that time; they did not care for God’s economy. This is why the couples and the single ones need to be controlled by the vision of God’s economy. Paul was single and he said he was always obedient to the heavenly vision (Acts 26:19). Joshua, in turn, represents the heads of families who serve the Lord together with their households (Josh. 24:24). This proves that he also had a vision of God’s will and desire.
