The Vision of the Tabernacle

Chapter 3

The Ministry of Reconciliation

One of the most important truths of the New Testament is that all the Christians are priests of God. God did not regenerate us merely to deliver us from eternal perdition. His desire is to have a people, a corporate man, to serve Him as priests. For this, every Christian needs to serve God individually. As we will see, in the Old Testament the priests were a special class of people among the people of God. However, in the new covenant it is different because the priesthood was enlarged to include all the children of God. In this chapter we will cover the matter of the ministry of reconciliation which we have received from God. This ministry should be exercised by every one of His children.

Paul wrote to the Romans that Christ died for sinners and that by this the love of God was manifested. He said that if, while we were sinners and enemies of God, we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we will be saved in His life. Footnote Because of this we must boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have received the reconciliation (5:6-11). Since we have been reconciled to God, today we may enjoy Him and participate in His life. As we enjoy Him, He becomes our joy. This reconciliation does not require us to do any work. We only need to freely receive the redemption Christ accomplished for us on the cross. We were justified and reconciled to Him through the blood He shed on the cross and now He gives His life to us continuously. This is the complete gospel of God!

In 2 Corinthians 5:18-19 Paul says, “But all things are out from God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Christ and has given to us the ministry of reconciliation; namely, that God in Christ was reconciling the world to Himself, not accounting their offenses to them, and has put in us the word of reconciliation.” Firstly, God reconciles us to Himself through Christ, and then He gives us the word of reconciliation that we might lead the unbelievers to be reconciled to God. Therefore, reconciliation is not only a benefit to us personally, but also through it, each one of us is commissioned by God to lead others to have this experience.
