Chapter 4
Scripture Reading: Eph. 4:15-16; 2 Pet. 1:8;
Until we all arrive. This is God’s will and this is also our will. We have seen that repentance is so important. Repentance is not only to repent of the things we do, but also of what we are. Both when John the Baptist began to preach and when the Lord Jesus started His ministry, they said, “Repent, for the kingdom of the heavens has drawn near.”(Matt. 3:2; 4:17). If people needed to repent when the kingdom of the heavens had drawn near, how about today when the kingdom has arrived?
Repentance is important because it shows our condition. Repentance is the attitude of the one who knows his own situation, who confesses his dependence on the Lord, who is open to the Lord so that the Lord may work, and who is open to the saints in order to receive perfecting from them.
We’ve also seen that this perfecting is for all of us; all of us are included. This perfecting is to bring all the saints into their functions for the work of the ministry for the building up of the Body of Christ. Each one of us has his own portion. We will only arrive if each one arrives at the portion that fits him. For example, last message we gave the illustration of a horse that is running the race. The horse that arrived first won the race because each part of its body functioned. If anyone says, “I won’t function, I will just ride along,” this one will not arrive! We will never arrive if we are taking rides! We are going on together. Each one of us is important! That’s why the perfecting of each one of us is necessary.
Perfecting is a matter of life, it is not a matter of a technique. Don’t think that you need to be perfected to improve your technique. This is a perfecting of life! God’s life is within us! We still have our nature with our soul life. We need to be perfected to deny our soul life and to allow all the power of the divine life to be manifested in our being.
Think of the power of the divine life! All of this power is within you but it needs to be exercised! We need to learn how to use this life! We need to live by this life so that this life will be manifested resulting in the building up of the Body of Christ! Ephesians 4:13 says, “Until we all arrive ” This implies growth and this also implies that we are on a journey until we all arrive. What does this mean? It means that we are in a process; we are in a growth process “Until we all arrive at the oneness of the faith and of the full knowledge of the Son of God, at a full grown man, at the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.” (v. 13)
