The Rebellion of Satan

God did this for a purpose. Genesis 1:1 says, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Before this beginning was the eternity past without a beginning and without an end. So God began in time creating the heavens and the earth. The heavens are for the earth and the earth is for man. Everything was very beautiful. The heavens were created in a very beautiful way, as was the earth where God would put man.

But verse 2 says, “But the earth became waste and emptiness.” Something happened in this universe since the first creation of God. We can see this in Ezekiel. Chapter 28:11-15a reads, “Son of man, take up a lamentation for the king of Tyre, and say to him, Thus says the Lord Jehovah, O you who sealed up perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty, You were in Eden, the garden of God. Every precious stone was your covering, sardius, topaz, diamond, chrysolite, onyx, jasper, sapphire, carbuncle, and emerald, with gold. The workmanship of your tambourines and your pipes was prepared with you on the day that you were created. You were the anointed cherub who covered the Ark; indeed I set you, so that you were upon the holy mountain of God; you walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. You were perfect in your ways from the day that you were created...” This is regarding the creation of the archangel, Lucifer, whom God had created in order for him to govern over many things with the authority delegated from God. He was created as a prince and had many precious stones covering him indicated his position as a prince. He was perfect in his days until unrighteousness was found in him.

Verses 15-17 continue, “By the abundance of your trading they filled your midst with violence, and you sinned. So I cast you out as profane from the mountain of God, and I destroyed you, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty; you corrupted your wisdom by reason of your brightness. I cast you to the ground; I presented you before kings that they may look at you.” This was the rebellion of Satan.

We can also see this in Isaiah 14:12-15 which says, How you have fallen from heaven, O Daystar, son of the dawn! How you have been hewn down to earth, You who made nations fall prostrate! But you, you said in your heart: I will ascend to heaven; Above the stars of God I will exalt my throne. And I will sit upon the mount of assembly In the uttermost parts of the north. I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High. But you will be brought down to Sheol, To the uttermost parts of the pit.” Satan had ambition in his heart to be like God.

So Satan was created in a wonderful way as an archangel, but because of his beauty and wisdom he became proud. All pride comes from Satan. Let us learn to be humble. Never be proud, because God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. In this rebellion, Satan took one third of the angels with him (Rev. 12:4). They were active on the earth before the creation of Adam. There were creatures before Adam, pre-adamic creatures and among these pre-adamic creatures some had some kind of spirit. God judged this creation with water because of its rebellion. The earth became full of water on the surface and everything died. Since some creatures had spirits and these creatures followed Satan, they were judged and died and became today’s demons. The angels who followed Satan are the fallen angels who became the princes, kings and generals of Satan. The book of Ephesians calls them the rulers and authorities of darkness, therefore God had cast them down on the earth and after this rebellion Satan became their king. Therefore the fallen angels became the princes and generals and the demons are like Satan’s soldiers. And they usurped this entire earth for themselves and this earth became empty and without form.
