The Lord Jesus Overcame Already

Don’t think you can overcome the world with your own strength. Something of God, even God Himself, has already entered into us. Before He entered into us, He overcame the world. In Matthew chapter 4, the Lord was taken to the wilderness to be tempted with respect to His sustenance. Satan tempted the Lord saying, “If You are the Son of God, speak that these stones may become loaves of bread.” (v. 3) Jesus answered, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out through the mouth of God.’” (v. 4)

Satan then tempted Jesus with respect to the religious world, and took him to a high mountain. Verses 5-7 say, “Then the devil took Him into the holy city and set Him on the wing of the temple, And said to Him, If You are the Son of God, cast Yourself down; for it is written, ‘To His angels He shall give charge concerning You, and on their hands they shall bear You up, lest You strike Your foot against a stone.’ Jesus said to him, Again, it is written, ‘You shall not test the Lord your God.’” He overcame the religious world and He overcame the world of sustenance.

Then Satan tempted Him with the glory of the world by taking him to a very high mountain. Verses 8-10 say, “Again, the devil took Him to a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to Him, All these will I give You if You will fall down and worship me. Then Jesus said to him, Go away, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only shall you serve.’”

The Lord overcame! And He speaks to each one of you today saying, “Take courage I have overcome the world!” (John 16:33) He who has overcome became the Spirit in us! And now we can overcome the world, and we have weapons that can help us do this. John 17:6 says, “I have manifested Your name to the men whom You gave Me out of the world. They were Yours, and You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word.” The weapon we have to overcome this world is, “O Lord Jesus!” The more you call on His name, the more the serpent will begin to lose his hold on you. “O Lord Jesus!” If you feel free already then say, “Amen!”

Verse 12 says, “When I was with them, I kept them in Your name, which You have given to Me, and I guarded them; and not one of them perished, except the son of perdition, that the Scripture might be fulfilled.” The Lord protects us. We are guarded by the name of the Lord! We need to always be calling on the name of the Lord. Psalm 91:7 says, “A thousand will fall at Your side, And ten thousand at Your right hand; But it will not come near to You.” Why? Because of the name of the Lord! Lord Jesus! And because of the word of God. Practicing the word of God is a way to overcome the world. We must give ourselves to the church, sitting in the front, becoming an active young person. We must be eager to go for the Lord and for His spread.
