Rivers of Living Water

“He who believes into Me, as the Scripture said, out of his innermost being shall flow rivers of living water.” (vs. 38) The Lord will touch you deep inside. He is not interest in what you are doing outwardly. The Lord cares about bearing fruit; He is not worried about how the leaves of the tree are. The Lord cares about your inward satisfaction, not about your outward appearance. Who believes in the Lord? Do you believe? “As the Scripture said, out of his innermost being shall flow rivers of living water.” Rivers!

All the situations presented by John show us people who were thirsty, hungry, unsatisfied, lame, blind, and full of knowledge. They were really dry! Everyone was empty; not even one touched something. Even at the feast, they couldn’t enjoy what they were supposed to enjoy. Nothing was from within, all were just outward appearances of enjoyment. But here the Lord says, “Out of his innermost being shall flow rivers of living water. But this He said concerning the Spirit, whom those who believed into Him were about to receive; for the Spirit was not yet, because Jesus had not yet been glorified.” (vv. 38b-39)

There have already been 6,000 years of human history. For 4,000 years of this history, people only lived in the flesh and in the soul. When the Lord Jesus showed himself on the last day of the feast, He was initiating a new age in human history. He was there to introduce a new realm. He was there to bring people to an environment where they could be really satisfied. That last day signified the last day of the 4,000 years, the last day of living in the flesh, the last day of living in the soul. The Lord was introducing the age of the Spirit!

This signifies that at that moment something happened, something that needs to happen to us also. He was putting an end to everything that was behind and bringing us to the Spirit. In which age are you? 2,000 years ago the Lord introduced the age of grace, the age of the church, and the age of the Spirit who gives life. But we can still be living in the age of the flesh, committing fornication. We also can be living in the age of the soul, trying to please God with our own effort. The Lord wants to usher all of you, all of us, into the age of the Spirit. When we are brought into this age, the Lord Jesus becomes everything to us. Little by little, the Lord transforms you; little by little, He changes you.

Do you know that the water of death that is inside of you and me? The Lord will transform it into life. Do you know that satanic nature, the same one the Lord revealed to Nicodemus? The Lord is able to transform you. When someone is in the spirit, the serpentine nature in him is put on the cross, and he lives a life he never dreamt that he could live. I would like to have such a living. To live in spirit is the way to have such a living. When we enjoy the Lord in our spirit, we are healed of our paralysis, of our dryness, and of our hunger, and we are satisfied. To live in the spirit is not just a story of someone who is 60 years old. No, it is a key to everyone, especially to the young people. The ones who really need to live in the spirit are not those who are old, almost dead. The ones who really need to live in the spirit are the young people so that they don’t get swallowed up in the vanity of the world. Let’s turn to the Lord, let’s enjoy the Lord, and let’s stir up our water. Oh Lord Jesus! Saints, let’s be brought into the present age, the age of the Spirit!
