Chapter 5
Scripture Reading: Acts 26:19; Heb. 11:22; Acts 7:9-10
In Hebrews 11 there is a wonderful list of people who do not shrink back, who go forward and who are of faith. From this list we have seen Abel, Enoch and Noah in the previous chapters. These three were saved from their generation. They were saved individually and we are impressed by their testimony of faith. However, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Joseph, who were controlled by a heavenly vision, were much more to God than individuals who were saved. They depended on God and brought forth a people while they were on the earth. They had a decisive influence on their generation. Young one, what God is expecting of you is not only that you would be saved personally at school, saved from corruption and degradation; but that together with the other young people from the church, you would depend on God and have an influence on others so that He can fulfill His plan and conquer the earth with His expression, dominion and glory. God's calling is glorious. This is why He appeared to Abraham.
There are three things in Abraham's life that call our attention. The first was his response. Abraham saw and went out. He did not remain still. Are you like Abraham? Then you should have a response. When God speaks you respond, go out and do not stay still.
The second is Abraham's consecration. Abraham had a living of the altar and the tent wherever he went. Wherever he went, he called on the name of the Lord. Are you also like this? Do you call on the name of the Lord everywhere you go? We call on the name of the Lord wherever we go. Our life is not for ourselves. Abraham's life and all that he had were for God. He was someone who offered. He offered himself and all that he had. Are you like this? Many young people argue: "I don't have a salary, I don't have money, how can I offer?" Everything depends on your heart. If your heart is willing, God will give you something to offer. To offer is rich and wonderful and only one who has seen God makes an offering. When the God of glory appears to us, we make an offering.
In the third place, we have Abraham's testimony. He was a sojourner, a stranger on the earth and he was known as such. We also should be people like this. Wherever we are, we are sojourners. We are waiting for better country, a city that has foundations.
